Brand of the Week: Truth Be Told
Truth Be Told…wellness never felt or looked so good!
Hi there! Thank you for tuning in to another Brand of the Week. Today, we’re dishing out the truth on the women’s wellness shop, Truth Be Told. Stick around to catch the tea!
Truth Be Told is a mother-daughter owned wellness shop selling all-natural hair and body products (known as their Renew and Restore U line) as well as wellness teas. The brand also has a blog and podcast of the same name that focuses on encouraging women to be healthy in all areas of life.
Daughter, Tri’ana, is the shop’s co-owner and owner of the Truth Be Told blog and podcast at the age of 26. She is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her passion is pouring love into others, and she does so by putting her all into the business to ensure its goals for women are met. She declares, “My hope for this business is to encourage women to love and take care of themselves…to give women the tools and power to instill self-worth and self-confidence. Truth Be Told reflects what I feel God’s path was for me…I am so excited to see what God has in store for all of us.”
Mother, Tawana, is the co-owner of Truth Be Told. She is a licensed stylist and hair care specialist of 32 years. Her passion has been driven by her desire to share her time and creativity with others, on top of serving her community. Tawana stands by the old saying, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” She states, “This quote doesn’t mean everyday will be smooth sailing, but by following your truth you’ll likely wind up exactly where you want to be…God has a purpose for your life, and my purpose is Truth Be Told.”
Truth Be Told all began as a podcast. Tri’ana saw a need for women to have a genuine safe space where they could be transparent without judgement and practice self-growth and self-love with one another in hopes of building camaraderie. She wanted to remind them that they’re not alone and that under all their roles, they still matter- so she took it upon herself to cultivate that environment. This safe space motivates women to be well in all things body, mind, spirit, home, family, community, and God’s earth.
Additionally, during the pandemic, Tri’ana and Tawana started to see the importance of and invest in self-care; they exercised, ate healthy, and sought products to improve their wellness. Tri’ana writes, “After a ton of money was spent with minimal results we started to research.” She became involved in teas, mixed her own skin products, tried popular lotions at Sephora, but couldn’t find the perfect product. When it failed, Tri’ana asked her mother if she’d go into business with her to promote women’s wellness and share all they’ve learned over the years. Tawana had just retired from being a hairstylist, so it was the perfect opportunity to start her own hair care line, especially after receiving stellar reviews from her clients asking her to come back to the industry. The dynamic duo stayed in prayer, testing, and production for over a year before launching the brand a little after March 2021. TBT started with scrubs, oils, and lotions, and has now expanded to teas and hair products. Tri’ana exclaims, “We still have so [many] plans in store!”
The brand’s mission is to positively impact all women by giving them ways to easily flourish. They strive to gift women with little means the ability to take care of themselves in big ways, thereby promoting self-love and a healthy body image. All the shop’s products are natural and made to encourage wellness. “Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis to attain better physical and mental health outcomes, so instead of just surviving, you’re thriving.”
The ride to success hasn't always been smooth, however. In the beginning, a lot was risked financially, physically, and mentally. The team experienced financial loss through scams and misunderstandings but overcame in the end. They cite their successes as their customers love and appreciation for not only what they provide, but who they are.
Words of wisdom the duo shares with other small business owners is to never start a business just to make money, but to make a difference.
Future plans for Truth Be Told is building the TBT tribe comprised of a community of women loving, thriving, and believing in themselves and others. The products will be available on Amazon soon, and TBT will be looking to expand the team!
